1250. Tempera on panel. 162 x 97 cm. Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain.

A masterpiece of Catalan Romanesque art marking the transition into early Gothic style. The central compartment displays the Virgin Mary seated on a throne holding the Christ Child inside a mandorla (Sedes Sapientiae). The surrounding panels illustrate pivotal scenes from the Life of the Virgin and the Infancy of Christ, including the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Adoration of the Magi, the Massacre of the Innocents, and the Flight into Egypt. Raised stucco patterning mimics rich metallic craftsmanship.
